  1. Five years, five cars. As a commemoration to Volvo's fifth straight year at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) tradeshow, the Swedish manufacturer will show five highly modified versions of its vehicles. Ranging from the all-new XC70 to a high-performance version of the S80 T6, an eye-popping C30 to a C70 convertible, and a one-off fully custom hot rod, this year marks Volvo Cars most ambitious SEMA effort ever. Four of the concepts are based on production versions of the Volvo XC70, the S80 T6, the C70 Convertible and the C30, while the fifth car is a built-from-the-ground-up, totally custom hot rod using major Volvo components from the previous-generation S80. Built purely as design concepts and prototypes, each car is decidedly different while still remaining uniquely Volvo. Once again, Volvo worked with Heico Sportiv in Germany to build the S80 T6 HPC and C30, while Caresto was tapped to build the C70 and hot rod. The XC70 concept was conceived from the Volvo Cars design team and built by Aria, a concept car building firm located in Irvine, CA. Creativity is a must at SEMA but Volvo has always insisted on one rule: all Volvo safety features must remain functional. Other than that, they were free to let their imaginations run wild. Additional information on all five SEMA Volvos, along with information about the production cars, may be found at http://www.volvocars-pr.com/. Here is just a glimpse of what each car is about: Volvo XC70 Surf Rescue (SR) Volvo's legendary core value of safety is the driving force behind this exciting concept. Designed around the lifeguard vehicles seen on many California beaches, the XC70 SR rides atop a 5-inch-lift suspension, oversized tires and heavily modified body panels. Inside is a full compliment of life-saving equipment and custom rescue surfboards. The 3.2-liter engine produces 235 horsepower that is seamlessly transferred through all four wheels via Volvo's electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Heico Sportiv S80 T6 High Performance Concept (HPC) Heico and Volvo are no strangers when it comes to SEMA, and the S80 T6 HPC is testament to how well both companies work together. The S80 T6 HPC features a 350-horsepower E85 bioethanol T6 engine that is routed through an all-wheel-drive system. It's outside, however, that the S80 T6 HPC really shines. A unique 7-layer "metal effect" paint scheme makes the car literally glow. Inside is a fully custom Mystic Blue leather interior with a sweeping aluminum center stack that arcs seamlessly from the top of the instrument panel to the rear bucket-style seats. Heico Sportiv C30 Similar to the XC70 SR, the Heico C30 is inspired by surfing; this time from the unique surf pattern inlay found on the C30's aluminum center stack. Aside from the striking orange designs on the outside, the Heico C30 features a lowered stance, a fully custom body kit with integrated spoilers and larger air ducts. Quad exhaust tips hint at the 300 horsepower beneath the hood. Bright orange, high-quality leather seats and interior trim make this car nearly impossible to miss. Caresto C70 Built as a successor to the Caresto Hot Rod that made its debut at last year's SEMA show, the Caresto C70 provides the ultimate convertible experience. Power output has been increased from 218 to 278 horsepower and torque has received a healthy bump from 236 lb.-ft. to 325 lb.-ft. from 1,500 - 4,800 rpm. The interior has been completely redone featuring hand stitched chestnut leather. Body modifications include new front and rear clips with distinctive brushed aluminum inserts around the fog lights and custom exhaust ports. Caresto Hot Rod First shown at last year's SEMA show, the Caresto Hot Rod was so well received Volvo Cars brought it back for the 2007 show as a compliment to the Caresto C70 Convertible. Completely hand assembled from aluminum and carbon fiber, the Caresto Hot Rod features many Volvo parts, including the mid-engine 311-horsepower V8 engine. Craftsmanship is what sets the Caresto Hot Rod apart from many other custom cars. Precision fit and finish is evidenced on every body panel and stitch of premium leather. 4. Volvo Car Corporation has decided to develop a completely new racing car and to continue its work with bioethanol (E85) and Green Racing in the STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championship) for three more years. "Our decision is based on the positive attention and the good results that the recently concluded STCC season has meant for Volvo's brand," says Derek Crabb, head of Powertrain and Engine at Volvo Cars and the man recently appointed to lead Volvo's Racing department. "It is now time to take the next step for the coming STCC seasons, and to meet the growing international interest in green racing", says Derek Crabb. Volvo Cars will do this by developing a new and modern green racing car based on the Volvo C30. The C30 is the model that most clearly demonstrates Volvo's environmental technology on the market, with versions such as the Flexifuel and the upcoming 1.6D Efficiency. The Volvo 1.6D Efficiency has an average fuel consumption of 0.45 litres per 10 km (52 mpg-US/62 mpg-UK) and CO2 emissions under 120 grams per kilometre. "The decision to leave this year's racing car, a Volvo S60, was fairly simple. The Volvo C30 is a somewhat smaller and more agile car with excellent driving characteristics, even in the standard version," says Derek Crabb. "Development of the new racing car will be done jointly by Volvo Cars and Polestar Racing, who has successfully handled our participation in STCC for several years. However, it is currently too soon to provide any detailed information about the construction of the new car. The objective, on the other hand, is crystal clear - we will develop a winning car," Derek Crabb concludes. The compact stature of the C30 will suit modern touring car racing. 5. Volvo's heart attack on crooks A tiny new listening device that can detect heartbeats has won Volvo a top award for security innovation. Sensor in PCC can detect a car jacker’s heartbeat from distance of 100 metres! The Swedish firm's Personal Car Communicator (PCC) scooped the honour at the British Insurance Car Security Awards. The pocket-sized PCC handset includes a unique sensor that can detect the heartbeat of a 'car mugger' lurking inside a motor from 100 metres away. Modern alarms and immobilisers are now so effective that many models are virtually thief-proof, and Volvo says its gadget - which costs £500 on the S80, V70 and XC90 - will outsmart a car crook's last option: to lie inside until the owner returns with the keys. But security expert Thatcham says there is only anecdotal evidence that this type of 'car jacking' is a genuine risk. "Car crime is at a 25-year low, but this offers the comfort factor to those who want it," explained a spokesman. The PCC has a host of other features, including remote alerts when the alarm is triggered, as well as keyless entry and keyless go. The Luxury Cars Women Want A study by J.D. Power identifies the cars and SUVs that were bought most by women in 2007. The most popular? Volvo In the ongoing debate regarding the differences between the sexes, here is something to think about: The luxury car with the highest male ownership is the high-performance Audi RS4 (NSU). The car with the highest female ownership is the Volvo S40. The RS4 has a starting price of $66,910 and can zoom from 0 to 62 mph (that's 100 kilometers per hour) in 4.8 seconds. The S40 has a sticker price of around $24,000. It doesn't really matter how fast it can go from 0 to 60. What does matter is that it aced the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's frontal crash test. It does not take a psychologist to conclude that men are more likely to buy cars with their heart and women with their head. At least that seems to be indicated by the results of J.D. Power & Associates' Power Information Network's most recent survey of the cars with the highest percentage of female ownership. Not surprisingly, there wasn't a sports car to be found in the top 10. Instead, there were sensible, entry-level cars and small SUVs that emphasized safety, quality, reliability, and value. Of course, that is not to say there's aren't thousands of women don't enjoy driving fast or wouldn't choose a Maserati over a minivan given the choice—but these women would seem to be the exception. To arrive at its conclusions, PIN surveyed hundreds of dealerships around the U.S. through the end of August, 2007. The nationwide PIN sample includes about 24% of U.S. retail automotive sales, including both loans and leases, luxury and non-luxury brands, but excluding fleet sales. J.D. Power, like BusinessWeek, is a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies (MHP). What Do Women Want? Volvo Not only did the S40 nail the top spot; the Volvo brand dominated the top 10 with three winners, which, along with the S40, included the V50 wagon at No. 7 and the S60 sedan at No. 9. Volvo was also the No. 1 luxury brand for female ownership overall, at 42.5%, vs. a luxury-brand average of 35.8%. So how does this popularity translate to sales? Year-to-date through August, women bought or leased more than half (53%) of the Volvo S40 sedans retailed in the PIN sample, which is fairly representative of the total market. However, that doesn't necessarily mean good news for the struggling Swedish automaker, which is a division of Ford Motor (F), because sales as a whole for the model are weak. As of August, North American sales of the S40 were 13,513, which was down about 17% year-to-date. Overall, Volvo's North American sales were off 9.4% to 72,476, according to Automotive News. Men clearly still buy the majority of cars. For example, the racier and more expensive BMW 3 Series is the perennial sales leader in the entry-luxury sedan segment, and is increasing its domination. Through August, 3 Series sales were up about 25%, to 97,039, according to Automotive News. But it didn't even make it on to PIN's top 10 list of women's favorite luxury cars. Across the industry, including non-luxury brands, women bought 37.3% of new vehicles in 2007 through August, based on the PIN sample data. Looking beyond luxury cars to include all price categories, the S40 was the fifth-most-popular model for female buyers. The most popular, according to J.D. Power, with 58.3% of all female buyers, was the Volkswagen (VOWG) New Beetle. Including non-luxury brands, Suzuki (SZKMF) was the No. 1 brand purchased by women this year, the data said. Reinforcing the PIN data, a separate customer survey by another market research and consulting company, San Diego's Strategic Vision, showed many of the same Volvos at the top of a similar list for the previous model year (the most recent one available), including the S40 at No. 1. Known Quantities "We're known for one thing. We 'own' safety," said John Maloney, vice-president for marketing communications at Volvo Cars of North America in Irvine, Calif. "Safety is sort of a foundational value for everyone. But on a relative basis, it is more important to women," says Maloney. Nevertheless, Volvo is trying to expand beyond its "safe" image. The company's new brand message continues to emphasize safety while still aiming to convince consumers that its cars are also rugged and fun to drive (BusinessWeek, 9/14/07). "I can't tell you I have one single piece of Volvo research that says, 'Voila! Here's where women are more concerned about safety than men.' I don't," admits Maloney. But individual women will tell you so. "Safety was the reason I got into it, that I got interested in Volvos," said Gretchen Adams of Afton, N.Y., a quilter who also happens to be a board member and vice-president/events director of the Volvo Club of America, which is also based in Afton, in central New York State. She said she and her husband both drive Volvos daily, and they have driven nothing but Volvos since about 1970, when they bought a two-tone, 1959 Volvo station wagon. They nicknamed it "the Pizza Wagon," for its red-and-cream paint job. Some Like a Lexus "It's kind of ingrained, I don't even look at other cars at this point, because I trust them [Volvos], and because I like to keep my vehicles for a while. I get tired of the throwaway mentality in the U.S. When I buy a product, I like to know I can hang on to it for a while," she said. If Volvo is synonymous with safety, Toyota's Lexus Div. is synonymous with quality and reliability. (It has won the J.D. Power dependability survey 13 years in a row. See the full 2007 list of the most dependable cars (BusinessWeek, 8/9/07). Lexus had fewer Top 10 female-owned models than Volvo, but the Lexus was the No. 2 luxury brand overall, in terms of female ownership, at 41.2%, according to PIN data. In liking Lexus, women are little different from men, since Lexus has been the No. 1-selling luxury brand in the U.S. since 2000. The biggest reason for the brand's high overall female ownership is the Lexus RX model, a car-based SUV typically purchased for family use. The RX is the single biggest-selling Lexus—at 67,686 units year to date—and ranks sixth on the list of the 10 most popular female-owned luxury vehicles. Primary Decision Maker Tom Libby, senior director of industry analysis for PIN, noted that most of the models in the most popular luxury list purchased by women are at the entry level for their respective brands, all of which have MSRPs of under $40,000. "You're not going to get that many single women buying an $80,000 vehicle. To some extent, the lower the price, the higher percent female," he said. According to Libby, to determine the percentage of ownership, PIN looked at the finance contract to see if a woman was the sole owner or the top signer. The data do not include marital status. Colleen O'Dea, sales manager for Kundert Volvo of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., said it is not at all uncommon for women shopping alone to come in and buy or lease a Volvo. She believes most of them are married. "It's probably a household decision, but it happens all the time that women are picking the car, picking colors and the equipment. Maybe 10 or more years ago, women would do that, and then the men would come in and negotiate, but today it's just the opposite. The woman is definitely the primary decision-maker," she said. O'Dea said that according to Volvo statistics for the Northern New Jersey sales region, 63% of the S40 buyers for the last 60 days were female. No Condescending Salesmen Allowed Another sign of the changing times is that women are increasingly knowledgeable about cars. As a result, men and women indicate that they are equally satisfied with the automotive sales experience, at least according to the most recent J.D. Power Sales Satisfaction Index. Both sexes gave the dealership where they bought or leased their new car an identical satisfaction rating of 847 on a 1,000-point scale—a record high for the 20-year study. Of course, there are some dealerships where salesmen treat less well-informed women condescendingly, or suggest that they "come back with their husbands," assuming that the man is the real decision-maker. "You do still hear that sometimes, although in my case, I would kill any of my salespeople," O'Dea said. "Women want a vehicle and an experience with the dealership that says she is respected for the smart choice she made, that she is an expert at knowing what she wants," said Shedroff of Strategic Vision. Four-Car Garage Tricia Patricco of Union, N.J., a self-described "Volvo Girl" and another Volvo Club board member, said she tries to underplay the fact that she's a Volvo expert, if a salesperson tries to take advantage of her. "I think people are more savvy than they used to be, what with the Internet and all the sources of information. You know what a dealer's margin is, what a reasonable amount of profit is for them, and the fact that you start negotiating at that point. If you don't do those things nowadays, you'd have to be pretty dumb," she said. Patricco and her husband currently have four Volvos—two daily drivers and two vintage cars that they take to Volvo Club events—so it's impossible for her to play dumb in front of her friends. "They all know I'm a maniac." Sursa: http://www.businessweek.com/autos/content/sep2007/bw20070920_795863.htm
  7. Volvo's favorite tuning house, Heico Sportiv, is teaming up with the Swedish automaker to create another special for the 2007 SEMA Show. The latest creation is dubbed simply the S80 High Performance Concept. Heico has modified the turbocharged T6 engine to run on E85, which is a blend of 15 percent gas and 85 percent bioethanol. The engine produces 350 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, and Heico is aiming to hike output even further by the time the show rolls around in early November. The concept accelerates from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.8 seconds. The Heico S80 features all-wheel drive and a modified sport suspension, with upgraded shocks, springs and brakes. The ride height has been lowered by 1.6 inches. Heico has fitted Continental 255/30R20 performance tires, mounted on 20-inch Volution X forged alloy wheels. A stainless-steel exhaust system has been adapted. Aero body pieces include a front spoiler with integrated air ducts and LED running lights and a rear deck spoiler. The exterior is finished in an aluminum metal look, with trim painted in matte black chrome. The cabin is trimmed in blue leather with silver carbon-fiber accents. What this means to you: "Green performance" is no longer an oxymoron, at least not in Volvo's lexicon. 9. Swedish automobile maker Volvo has produced a device that prevents drunk drivers from starting their cars, the company's press-service said. Called Alcoguard, the device will go on sale at the beginning of 2008. Resembling a TV remote-control handset, the breathalyzer measures the level of alcohol in a driver's blood. If the amount exceeds the legal maximum (less than 0.2 g/l in Sweden), the car simply refuses to start. The first two thousand models, for the Volvo S80, V70, and XC70, will retail at 800 euros (about $1,000). They are initially intended for use by taxi firms and municipalities. "At present, one in every three [road] fatalities in Europe is alcohol-related. Alcoguard is a tool whose purpose is to help the driver make sober decisions," said Ingrid Skogsmo, director of the Volvo Cars Safety Centre. The first such 'alco-locks' were introduced in the U.S. and Canada in the 1980s for control over drivers who had been convicted of drunk driving. An in-car breathalyzer had already been announced by Japanese auto maker Nissan, whose device initially measures alcohol in the driver's breath via an odor sensor. If levels exceed norms, a female voice politely advises the driver not to start the car. If this warning is ignored, then sensors in the gear stick test the alcohol level in the sweat on the driver's palms, and if the level is excessive, the device locks the car's transmission. 13. Ford spune PA-PA lui Volvo ?

Nu-i mai inteleg pe astia! Ford Considers Selling Volvo Cars Business, Says Source LONDON—Ford Motor Co. is considering selling its Volvo Cars business as it assesses the future of its European operations, a source familiar with the matter said on Sunday. The review of Volvo was still at a very early stage and may not result in a sale, the source told Reuters, adding that Ford had so far not hired financial advisers for the operation. "Ford is not in discussions with any company to sell Volvo, however we are continuing to assess options for all our operations," a London-based spokesman for Ford said, while declining to comment further. Last week, speculation about a Volvo takeover was fuelled by an interview with BMW Chief Financial Officer Stefan Krause in a German newspaper, who had not ruled out takeovers of other carmakers or brands, although he was also quoted as saying any talk of a bid for Volvo Cars was "pure speculation". The speculation, however, lifted shares in Swedish truck maker Volvo around 5 percent on Thursday and analysts said there was market confusion as investors mixed up the Swedish truck maker with the Ford-owned auto maker. 14. S80 reinnoit

Auto Review: Volvo S80 Consumer Center - Even though the basic look of Volvo's new S80 sedan is similar to the car it replaces, this is an all-new sedan. The grill though is marred by the antenna of the adaptive cruise control, an option I do not like. Gone is the five-cylinder turbocharged engine. Now it's a 3.2 liter six-cylinder with no turbo. A V8 is available. 235 horsepower is sent to the front wheels through a new six-speed automatic transmission. Inside, the S80 interior is much more contemporary and stylish. The gauges have needles that seem to float in space. There's push button engine start and a neat storage cubby behind the center stack climate controls. This is a roomy car with seats that rank among the best. This is a Volvo, so of course side curtain airbags and stability control are standard. The S80's trunk is huge. The split rear seats provide even more room for long items. Once you're in motion you can really see and hear how much better the new S80 is than the one it replaced. With the excellent door seals this is a very quiet car and the chassis is much more rigid. It's just overall a nicer car to drive. The sticker price as tested is $41,865. The 2007 S80 is a major leap forward for Volvo and it's now a truly competitive luxury sports sedan. 15. S80 reinnoit

Volvo S80 gets redesign, advanced safety systems Volvo, the carmaker known for manufacturing exceptionally safe vehicles, has redesigned their S80 flagship sedan, giving it a more elegant and dynamic appeal. Also new for 2007 are two new engines to provide S80 with more power and help keep it in step with the competition. Additionally, Volvo has packed S80 with an impressive list of technologically-advanced safety systems. At first glance, you might not see much difference between the first generation S80 and the current car, but this new second-generation model is a bit wider and taller. The overall length is the same, but the wheelbase is now longer and the track is wider. The new platform is much stiffer, too. All of this helps the new S80 feel more hunkered down and stable, especially at highway speeds. Exterior styling changes that occurred include a few more curves, softer lines and a noticeably higher and broader shoulder line. These new elements add a more luxurious tone to S80’s contemporary theme. Bigger alterations can be found under S80’s hood, where last year’s anemic five-cylinder engine gives way to either a 235-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline-six or a 311-horsepower, 4.4-liter V-8. S80s equipped with the I-6 send power to the front wheels while V-8 models feature Volvo’s intelligent all-wheel drive as standard equipment. With a starting price of $38,705, the S80 3.2 includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, leather upholstery, eight-way power front seats with memory for the driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-speaker stereo with an in-dash CD changer and an MP3 player jack. Step up to the S80 V-8 ($47,350), and you’ll get all-wheel drive, an interior air quality system (which monitors incoming air for contaminants and switches to recirculate as necessary), electronic parking brake, “watch dial†instrument cluster design, and wider 17-inch alloy wheels. Either S80 model can be ordered with the Sport Package ($2,495), which adds 18-inch wheels, Volvo’s Three-Mode Four-C Chassis (adaptive suspension with three driver selectable modes), active bi-xenon headlamps and ventilated front seats with unique perforated leather surfaces. The Audio Package ($1,550) adds a premium 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system and satellite radio. The Climate Package ($725) provides heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers with heated washer nozzles, and headlamp washers. Other options to consider include a navigation system, adaptive cruise control, a dual-screen rear entertainment system, Park Assist (front and rear) the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and the Personal Car Communicator (PCC), which combines keyless startup with a security system that uses two-way radio technology to let you know the car’s security status. My S80 V-8 tester featured most of the aforementioned options, save for the rear entertainment system and the navigation system. My two favorite features were the adaptive cruise control and the BLIS. I used my S80 V-8 tester for a trip from the South Side to Springfield. I was impressed with how the adaptive cruise control system would actually slow us down (by applying the brakes) as we approached slower moving vehicles ahead of us. As soon as the traffic ahead cleared, the adaptive cruise control automatically brought me back to our preset speed. This system lets you set a speed and distance interval. Once you’ve done that, all you really have to do is steer the car. With BLIS, changing lanes is much less stressful. BLIS uses a camera mounted in each side mirror to alert you by illuminating an amber colored lamp (mounted near the side mirror) when the blind spot is occupied by a vehicle. Regardless of whether I was on the highway or in town, I felt very relaxed driving my S80 V8 tester. While the S80 isn’t known for being one of the more agile handling sedans in this segment, I truly enjoyed spending hours at the wheel. I’d be remiss if we didn’t mention how comfortable S80’s seats are and how peacefully quiet the cabin is at highway speeds. The S80 is great for commuting around town, and of course, for those weekend excursions. Sursa: http://searchchicago.suntimes.com/autos/research/siegel/386099,srch-auto-IS051807.article
  16. VOLVO XC 90 TUNED BY ERST

Volvo XC90 By ERST: Swedish SUV Gets Japanese Treatment Ever heard about ERST before? Don’t be shy to admit it, we hadn’t. Turns out that, just like Heico Sportiv, Evolve and IPD, ERST is tuning house that specializes on Volvo. What makes ERST special though is the fact that it’s based in Japan. ERST’s latest offering concentrates on soccer mom’s best pal, the facelifted XC90. The Japanese tuning house’s package consists of a bodykit that includes under panel attachments on both bumpers, front fog light fins, chromed exhaust pipe and most importantly, wider fender flares. Along with a set of sexy, bi-color alloy rims and a lowered suspension, the Volvo XC90 looks aggressive without going overboard or bling-bling. 17. S40/V50 FaceLift Major

Dupa FaceLift-ul acesta...iata ca urmeaza si o varianta sport pt cele 2 modele! 18.
  20. Doliu in lumea pasionatilor auto din Romania

"A Fost Unul Dintre Regii Curselor Ilegale,a Fost Mentorul A Mi De Oameni Poate Si Al Tau,a Fost Cel Mai Alergat De Politie, cel Mai Cautat , Cel Mai Notoriu Bmw-ist, Frate ,prieten, dusman La Start, s`a Stins Azi Dimineata In Accident De Motocicleta .....Robert Txa.....
