Your Volvo in a book?

8 posts in this topic

Hello Volvo lovers,

First, a quick introduction: I am Rob, a teacher and copywriter from the Netherlands. I drive a 1992 240 estate, imported from Italy.

I'm writing a book on Volvo's around the globe, to be published by ASN Books, a Dutch publisher of automotive books. The book will be written in Dutch, but hopefully, there will be an English translation as well. If all goes well, the Dutch version will be in the shops by the end of 2013.

The book will be about the cars and the people who drive them, repair them, restore them, cherish them, wear them out. I'm looking for amazing, funny, peculiar, touching stories. Stories about restorations, road trips, vacations, Volvo's that saved lives. Stories about families that live and breathe Volvo. Snapshots from the past and the present, with all kinds of classic or almost classic Volvo's on them. Snapshots with a story and stories with a snapshot.

I'm also looking for unique promotional material, news stories from back in the day, stories about ancient Volvo dealers. And I'm even looking for things I don't yet know I'm looking for. The main thing is, that it's about classic Volvo's - let's say the 850 and everything older, although one could consider a V70R to be a classic too - and it's worth reading about.

I'm hoping to write a unique book, but I can't do it alone. I hope you can help me find the cars and the stories I'm looking for. So, if you have something to tell that the whole world should know - Volvo-related, obviously - you can send me an e-mail at volvostories@xs4all.nl or reply to this topic.

You can find some information about the forthcoming publication on http://www.geestschrijver.nl/volvo . Or you can check out the publishers' website: http://www.asnbooks.com .

Thank you!

I'm sad to say that the Volvo-book I had in mind fell victim to mediocrity and lack of guts. My ideas for a creative, arty, funny, very original book turned out to be too big for the publishers. They fear they won't sell enough. I think they're wrong, but I can't go back to writing a 'normal' book.

Who knows, maybe I'll find another publisher, with more imagination. Or a magazine that's interested. If that's the case, I'll let you know. And if you happen to know a publisher that fits the profile, I hope you'll let me know.

Thank you very much for your co-operation.

Take care,

Rob Passchier

Hi, Rob

Sorry to hear that...

Maybe you should consider to do your own book and publish it for mobile/tablet versions.

I'm sure you will have some buyers on Apple Store or Android market.

Worths a try.

Cheers,

Adi

... another publisher, with more imagination.

...or just a Volvo lover. ;)

Anyway, you should just keep searching and collecting stories for your book, so you have it ready when time comes.

I wish you to fulfill your dream and I salute your original initiative.
